ROSEMONT, Ill. - Senior attack Steph Lazo (Stevensville, Md.) has been named the Big Ten women's lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week as announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon.
The senior registered a career-high 12 points while tying her career-high for goals (5) and assists (7) during a 20-9 victory over Albany to begin the 2017 season.
Lazo potted the first goal of the game and later factored in four of five goals during an early second half spurt that gave the Nittany Lions a 12-6 lead and the momentum back after Albany had scored five consecutive goals cutting the lead to a single goal.
Lazo found the back of the net on 71.4% of her shots last Saturday and was able to tickle the twine each time her shot hit the target. The senior is coming off a junior campaign, which saw her score 34 goals and add 37 assists for 71 points, which was good for second on the team.
Penn State returns to action on Saturday as they welcome Towson to Happy Valley for a 1 p.m. affair.
