UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. ââ'¬" The Penn State women's golf team finished up at the Hurricane Invitational, shooting a 300 in the final round to secure the seventh spot in the standings.
Sophomore Lauren Waller (Canonsburg, Pa.) led the way in the final round, improving on her round two score by six strokes, hitting five birdies to finish with a 70, 2-under. Waller ended with a tournament score of 219, finishing tied for 13th place in the leaderboard.
Newcomer Maddy Herr (New Hope, Pa.) had an excellent first tournament back from the winter break. Herr shot 72, 71, and 75, respectively in her three rounds, to lead the team with a tournament score of 218, finishing just outside the top-10 at 12th place.
Senior Kate Granahan (Allentown, Pa.) also shot a 75 in the final round, while the sophomores Cara Basso (Downingtown, Pa.) and Jackie Rogowicz (Yardley, Pa.) ended with round scores of 80 and 82.
Penn State's individual player, newcomer Ashni Dhruva (Katy, Tx.), shot a 79 in the final round to end with a tournament score of 230.
A fellow Big Ten team captured this year's Hurricane Invitational title. Northwestern pulled ahead in the final round to finish 5-under with a team score of 859.
The Nittany Lions travel to Wilmington, N.C. next week to compete in the River Landing Classic. Several players set career bests, and the team had one of their best finishes of the season in last year's tournament, finishing in second place. The Lion's hope to duplicate that performance again next week.
