ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Michigan uses a two-goal second period to come back and defeat No. 11 Penn State 3-2 this evening in Big Ten Conference action from Yost Ice Arena.
With the loss Penn State drops to 21-10-2 on the year and 10-8-1 in conference action while Michigan improves to 12-18-3 overall and 5-12-2-2 in the Big Ten.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Penn State opened the scoring as freshman Kris Myllari (Kanata, Onatario) blasted a one-timer from the blue line that beat Wolverine goaltender Hayden Lavigne over the right shoulder with just 0.5 seconds left in the frame for the 1-0 advantage.
- Michigan responded early in the second as Tony Calderone fired a wrist shot that beat Nittany Lion freshman net-minder Peyton Jones (Langhorne, Pa.) on the high glove side for the 1-1 score at 3:06.
- Senior David Thompson (Glen Mills, Pa.) tilted the score back in favor of Penn State as he sent a wrist-shot on goal from the far right point that beat Lavigne to the high blocker side for the 2-1 score at 15:09 of the middle stanza.
- Calderone once again tied the score as he took advantage of a neutral zone turnover and fired from the right dot beating Jones to the glove side with a wrister at 2:23 for the 2-2 score. Brendan Warren then used an odd-man rush just three minutes later to give the Wolverines the 3-2 lead as he slipped the puck five-hole at 5:25 of the final frame.
