ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The eleventh-ranked Penn State Nittany Lions were shutout for just the second time all season as they fell to Michigan, 4-0, this evening in Big Ten Conference action from Yost Ice Arena.

PSU falls to 21-11-2 on the year and 10-9-1 in conference play while the Wolverines improve to 13-18-3 overall and 6-12-2-2 in the Big Ten.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Michigan opened the scoring as Adam Winborg banged in a rebound out front off of Will Lockwood's initial shot at 12:06 of the first period for the 1-0 lead.
  • Tony Calderone extended the lead at 1:37 of the third period as he jammed home a loose puck on the left of the crease with the man-advantage for the 2-0 lead.
  • Sophomore Andrew Sturtz (Buffalo, N.Y.) had an amazing shorthanded bid with about five minutes remaining in the third period as he dangled through defenders and cut to the net, but Wolverine goaltender Zach Nagelvoort somehow got the left pad down to prevent the goal.
  • Michigan added insurance as Winborg potted his second goal of the contest right on the doorstep at 16:43 and Nicholas Boka found the empty net at 18:27 for the 4-0 final.

GOALTENDING

Freshman Peyton Jones (Langhorne, Pa.) collected 20 saves and falls to 19-9-2 on the year while Nagelvoort stopped 46 pucks and improves to 6-5-1 with the victory.
