CHANDLER, Ariz. - The Zag Field Hockey/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I National Academic Squad was announced Wednesday afternoon with 13 Penn State student-athletes earning accolades.
Representing the Nittany Lions on the Division I National Academic Squad were Shay Cannon, Carly Celkos, Colleen Conway, Emilee Ehret, Kirsten Gochnauer, Delani Higgins, Alexis Horst, Madison Hutson, Cassie Kline, Aurelia Meijer, Madison Morano, Mary Nell Smith, and Lisa Winters.
The Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad includes all student-athletes with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 or greater through the first semester of the 2016-17 academic year.
In addition, a total of 114 student-athletes representing 54 different schools were recognized as Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division I Scholars of Distinction.
One of the 114 student-athletes represented were Penn State's Lisa Winters who earned Division I Scholars of Distinction for the first time in her career. Winters is a sophomore Pre- Business major from Hershey, Pa.
The Scholars of Distinction list includes those student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.90 or greater through the first semester of the 2016-17 academic year.
There were 139 seniors noted for making the Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad in each of their four seasons including Penn State's Carly Celkos, a Rehabilitation and Human Services major from Berlin, N.J.
