No. 10 WLAX Travels to No. 5 Princeton on Tuesday

PRINCETON, N.J. - The No. 10 Penn State women's lacrosse team heads back on the road for their next three contests beginning with a trip to No. 6 Princeton on Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m.

THE MATCHUP

  • Dating back to 1982 when the series began, Princeton holds the 24-11 advantage over the Nittany Lions including a 13-4 record since 2000.
  • The Nittany Lions secured the 14-10 victory against the Tigers last season at home in Happy Valley. Madison Cyr '16 paced the team with six goals while junior Katie O'Donnell and sophomore Madison Carter each added a pair.

LAZO'S LEGACY

  • Senior Steph Lazo continues to cement herself in the Penn State record books through the midway point of the 2017 season. After a six-assist game against Rutgers, Lazo leaped into ninth on the all-time list for assists with 72 in her career. The senior is just five assists shy of eighth and eight shy of seventh all-time.
  • Lazo also moved into a tie for 16th on the all-time scoring list with 173 career points as her 51 points this season leads the entire Big Ten and is second in the nation. Lazo's 26 assists is first in the Big Ten and leads the entire nation.
  • The senior secured seven helpers last season during Penn State's 14-10 victory over Rutgers.

B1G THREE

  • Penn State has three of the top four goal scorers in the Big Ten this season lead by Carter with 32 who paces the league while O'Donnell's 27 is good for third and Lazo's 25 ranks fourth. Carter's goal total ranks eighth in the entire country.
  • Only Ohio State's Molly Wood with 30 breaks up the trio. Wood has played two games more than each Penn State player to this point.

CAT IN THE CAGE

  • Senior Cat Rainone has been huge in cage all year for Penn State and in two of her last three games has registered a career-high nine saves during wins over JMU and Rutgers.
  • Her 9.21 goals against average is good for fifth in the conference while her .452 save percentage also places her fifth.

B1G START

  • Penn State is now 3-0 in Big Ten Conference openers with each win coming against Rutgers and the Nittany Lions have now won seven straight conference openers dating back to 2011.

SCOUTING PRINCETON

  • The Tigers come into the week ranked fifth in the latest IWLCA poll and are a perfect 5-0 to begin the season including a 14-8 victory over No. 8 Notre Dame in their last outing.
  • Princeton is outscoring their opponents 75-42 while averaging 15 goals per contest so far this season.
  • Olivia Hompe paces the squad with 20 goals and has added seven assists for a team-high 27 points. Tess D'Orsi is the only other Tiger with double-digit goals as she has scored 15 so far this season. Thirteen different Tigers have recorded at least one goal this season.
  • Ellie DeGarmo has played every minute in net for Princeton and has a 8.40 goals against average and a .576 save percentage, which ranks No. 1 in the country.
