UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. ââ'¬" The Penn State women's golf team competed in rounds one and two at the Briar's Creek Invitational shooting an even 600 on the day and sitting in 16th place heading into the final round.
The Nittany Lions got off to a strong start posting a 294, plus-6 in the first round, but fatigue settled in, in round two as the team shot a 306. However, the Lions have an opportunity to climb the standings a bit in the final round, as they are just three strokes behind the two teams in front of them.
Sophomore Lauren Waller (Canonsburg, Pa.) led the team, finishing the day with a total score of 149. Waller played especially well in the second round, shooting a 70 2-under. Waller is tied for 48th in the player leaderboard.
Newcomer Maddy Herr (New Hope, Pa.) and sophomore Jackie Rogowicz (Yardley, Pa.) both finished the day with a score of 151. Rogowicz shot a 70 and 81 in her two rounds, while Herr shot a 76 and 75.
Sophomore Cara Basso (Downingtown, Pa.) shot a 75 and 80, on her way to a tournament score of 155. While the senior Kate Granahan (Allentown, Pa.) started strong hitting a 73 plus-1 in her first round, but struggled in round two on her way to a score of 156 on the day.
The players all shot relatively around the same score and as mentioned, have a chance to move up in the standings in the final round, in one of the toughest tournament field's they have played in this year.
The final round will get underway tomorrow with a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m.
