WGOLF Finishes Up at the Briar's Creek Invitational

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. ââ'¬" The Penn State women's golf team competed in the final round of the Briar's Creek Invitational and shot a 308, to finish in 16th place with a tournament score of 908.

This was the toughest tournament the Nittany Lions have played in this year, as 10 out of the 18 teams competing are ranked in the top-50 golf programs in the nation.

Sophomore Lauren Waller (Canonsburg, Pa.) and newcomer Maddy Herr (New Hope, Pa.) both ended their tournament with a 76 plus-4. Waller shot the lowest tournament score on the team with a 225, and finished tied for 53rd in the player leaderboard. While Herr was consistent all tournament shooting 76, 75, and 76, respectively in her three rounds.

Senior Kate Granahan (Allentown, Pa.) had a team-high four birdies in the final round, on her way to a score of 77 plus-5. Granahan shot a 73, 83, and 77 in her three rounds and finished with a score of 233.

Sophomores Jackie Rogowicz (Yardley, Pa.) and Cara Basso (Downingtown, Pa.) both hit two birdies and shot a final round score of 79. Rogowicz finished the tournament with a score of 230, while Basso ended with a 234.

The University of Florida led wire-to-wire and won its third-consecutive Briar's Creek Invitational team title, this time setting the new lowest tournament total record at 849, 15-under. The Gators were the only team to finish under par. The second placed team, Campbell University shot an 867, plus-3.

The Lions head to Greensboro, N.C. next to compete in the Bryan National Collegiate. Last year, the team finished in 13th place at this event with a score of 946.
