UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Following No. 2 Penn State's 15-8 win over Cleveland State on March 25, freshman attackman Mac O'Keefe was named Big Ten Co-Freshman of the Week on Tuesday afternoon by the league office.
With the honor, O'Keefe has earned five Big Ten Freshman of the Week awards, more than any other player in Penn State men's lacrosse history.
O'Keefe logged the award after a four-goal performance against Cleveland State. It marked his sixth game of the 2017 season in which he logged three or more goals.
The Syosset, New York, native's goal scoring prowess is unmatched currently, as he leads the country in goals scored with 34 total in nine contests. O'Keefe's 3.78 goals per game rank second nationally.
With 34 goals this season, O'Keefe moved to third in single-season goals during head coach Jeff Tambroni's tenure. His 34 goals are 10-shy of the single-season freshman record, held by TJ Sanders.
The undefeated Nittany Lions face Ohio State (9-1) in a top-five matchup on Sunday, April 2, at 7 p.m. The game is set for national broadcast on the Big Ten Network, with Dean Linke and Mark Dixon on the call.
