WGOLF Gearing up for Bryan National Collegiate

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Penn State women's golf team is in Greensboro, N.C. preparing for the 20th annual Bryan National Collegiate hosted by UNCG and Wake Forest.

Due to inclement weather today, round one will be postponed till tomorrow. Therefore, 36-holes will be played tomorrow, both rounds one and two, and the final round is still scheduled for Sunday.

The tournament will feature 18 teams this year. Penn State and Michigan are the only Big Ten schools competing while the rest of the field rounds out to be; Wake Forest, UNCG, Alabama, Baylor, Charleston, Colorado State, Georgetown, Georgia, Miami, North Carolina, NC State, Notre Dame, Oregon, South Carolina, UCF, and Virginia.

This is the 10th appearance the Nittany Lions have made at the Bryan National Collegiate since the tournament first started in 1998. The Lions best performance came in 1999 when the team finished in sixth place with a tournament score of 941. Last year at this event, the team shot a tournament score of 946 and finished in 13th place.

Head coach Denise St. Pierre is going with the same starting five as she has the entire spring season. Those players are senior Kate Granahan (Allentown, Pa.), sophomores Lauren Waller (Canonsburg, Pa.), Jackie Rogowicz (Yardley, Pa.) and Cara Basso (Downingtown, Pa.), and the newcomer Maddy Herr (New Hope, Pa.).

The three sophomores Lauren Waller (Canonsburg, Pa.), Jackie Rogowicz (Yardley, Pa.) and Cara Basso (Downingtown, Pa.) all competed at this tournament last year and shot fairly around the same scores. Rogowicz finished with a 235, Basso shot a 237, and Waller ended with a 240.

Play will get underway tomorrow with a shotgun start at 8 a.m.
