March 8, 2017

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. ââ'¬" The Penn State women's golf team is in Wallace, N.C. preparing for the 17th annual River Landing Classic hosted by ECU and UNCW.

The two-day tournament gets underway tomorrow with rounds one and two, while the final round is set for Friday.

Penn State is the only Big Ten team competing in this year's tournament, but will still have tough competition against the 11 other teams. As noted the two hosts teams are ECU and UNCW while the rest of the field rounds out to be; ETSU, Chattanooga, Morehead State, North Carolina, Ohio, Youngstown State, Richmond, Appalachian State, and Elon.

Head coach Denise St. Pierre is traveling with the same players as she did in the last tournament. That means the starting five will consist of three sophomores Lauren Waller (Canonsburg, Pa.), Cara Basso (Downingtown, Pa.) and Jackie Rogowicz (Yardley, Pa.), the senior Kate Granahan (Allentown, Pa.), and the newcomer Maddy Herr (New Hope, Pa.). The Lions also have the newcomer Ashni Dhruva (Katy, Tx.) playing as their one individual player.

This is the Nittany Lions fourth time competing in the River Landing Classic. The previous three appearances all resulted in top-10 finishes, with their best coming last year with a second place finish. ECU won the title last year, only beating the Lions by four strokes with a team score of 898.

Thursday's play featuring both rounds one and two will begin with a shotgun start at 8:45 a.m. as Penn State and the two hosts teams, ECU and UNCW, will tee off on holes one through four.
