SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Senior Zach Saar (Richland, Mich.) becomes the second Nittany Lion to ink a professional deal following the conclusion of the 2016-17 season as he signed a one-year contract with the San Diego Gulls of the American Hockey League for the 2017-18 season.
"I'm grateful for this opportunity to play in the AHL next season with such a great organization," commented Saar.
The Gulls are the AHL affiliate of the Anaheim Ducks of the National Hockey League. Saar, whose focus is on graduation, will remain in Happy Valley to finish his studies before heading to the West Coast later this summer.
"Zach's game is built for pro hockey and we are really excited for him and look forward to following his success," mentioned head coach Guy Gadowsky. "I'm sure he will be a fan favorite in pro hockey just like he was here at Penn State."
The 6-6, 225-pound winger skated in 18 games for Penn State this season scoring four goals and adding four assists for eight points. During his four-year career, Saar played in 92 games registering 29 points on 15 goals and 14 assists.
"Looking back, I couldn't be more thankful for my time at Penn State which has afforded me every chance to develop as both a hockey player and person. The people are what makes Penn State special. In line with this, my teammates have made all the difference in my time here and I'm forever thankful to them," concluded Saar.
