ROSEMONT, Ill. - Senior goalkeeper Cat Rainone (Newtown Square, Pa.) earned her second Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honor this season on the heels of her Senior day performance against Virginia as announced by the league office earlier Tuesday afternoon.
Rainone stopped a career-high 14 shots while earning her 12th victory of the season during a 12-8 triumph over the Cavaliers last Saturday.
Rainone has posted a 12-1 record in 13 starts this season while turning in a .484 save percentage and a 9.05 goals against average. Both marks rank second in the Big Ten, only behind Maryland's Megan Taylor, and 23rd and 18th in the nation, respectively. The senior's 110 saves rank fourth in the Big Ten and tied 24th in the nation.
Rainone earns the eighth weekly honor for Penn State this season joining sophomore Madison Carter (Davidsonville, Md.) and senior Steph Lazo (Stevensville, Md.) with multiple awards, both have earned Offensive Player of the Week on three occasions.
The fifth-ranked Nittany Lions return to action with a tough conference clash at No. 16 Northwestern on Thursday evening at 7 p.m.
