WGOLF Prepares for the Lady Buckeye

April 14, 2017

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. ââ'¬" The Penn State women's golf team is in Columbus, Ohio for the Lady Buckeye Spring Invitational hosted by Ohio State. The two-day tournament gets underway tomorrow with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m., with the final round on Sunday.

Tournament play will be on the Scarlet Course, at the Ohio State University Golf Club. This course has a par of 72, and a total yardage of 6,319.

This tournament comes at a good time, as eight of the 12 teams in the field are part of the Big Ten conference. With the Big Ten Championship coming up next week, this gives the Nittany Lions a chance to see how they fair against a majority of the teams in their conference.

Penn State will be up against the following Big Ten teams; Ohio State, Illinois, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Rutgers, and Indiana. While the rest of the field rounds out to be, Kent State, Texas, University of Indianapolis, and Toledo.

The Lady Buckeye is formatted so six players compete for each team, with four of those players scores counting towards the team score. Therefore, Head coach Denise St. Pierre will be traveling with six players who have all competed in several tournaments this year. Those players are senior Kate Granahan (Allentown, Pa.), two newcomers Maddy Herr (New Hope, Pa.), and Ashni Dhruva (Katy, Tx.), and three sophomores Cara Basso (Downingtown, Pa.), Jackie Rogowicz (Yardley, Pa.), and Lauren Waller (Canonsburg, Pa.).
