UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. ââ'¬" The Penn State women's golf team finished up at the Lady Buckeye Invitational, shooting a 310 in the final round, to end in seventh place with a score of 912.
The tournament was very close throughout and could have gone either way for some teams. Two strokes is all that separated the fifth placed team Illinois and Penn State in seventh. While only one stroke decided the champion, as Michigan State edged out Texas, to finish with a score of 889, plus-25.
The Nittany Lions had two players finish inside the top-10 on the player leaderboard. Sophomore Jackie Rogowicz (Yardley, Pa.) notched her third top-5 finish of the season, as she shot a 73 plus-1 in her final round to finish tied for fifth place with a total score of 222. While sophomore Cara Basso (Downingtown, Pa.) earned her second top-10 finish of the year, hitting a 75 plus-3 in the final round to end with a score of 223, tied for 10th place.
Sophomore Lauren Waller (Canonsburg, Pa.) and newcomer Maddy Herr (New Hope, Pa.) both shot an 81 in their final round. Waller finished with a score of 233, tied for 27th, while Herr shot a 78, 76, and 81 in her three rounds to end tied for 37th with a score of 235.
Senior Kate Granahan (Allentown, Pa.) and newcomer Ashni Dhruva (Katy, Tx.) both shot an 83 in their final rounds. Granahan ended with a score of 240 and Dhruva finished with a 247.
Sophia Schubert from Texas was the only player to finish the tournament under par, as she shot a 213, 3-under to become the individual champion.
Penn State now channels all their efforts towards the Big Ten Championship next week, held in Maineville, Ohio.
