BRONXVILE, N.Y.
- Redshirt freshman Calvin Mende has earned a spot on the Academic All-EIVA team, as announced by the conference Wednesday afternoon. Mende joins eight other student athletes from the other conference schools on the squad.

This year Mende, also a First-Team All-EIVA selection, has recorded 292 kills averaging 3.28 per set hitting .305 over 25 matches while adding 104 digs, 74 total blocks and 11 service aces.

To be eligible for Academic All-EIVA honors, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.50 or higher and have participated in at least 60 percent of the matches played by their team.

Top-seeded Penn State men's volleyball (19-10, 11-3) is set to host the 2017 EIVA Championship this week. The Nittany Lions open the event with a semifinal matchup against fourth-seeded Princeton Thursday, April 20 at 7:30 p.m. in Rec Hall. No. 2 Saint Francis (Pa.) and No. 3 Sacred Heart will square off in the earlier semifinal match at 5 p.m.

Tickets are priced at $8 for adults and $5 for youth ages 12 and younger. Admission is free of charge to any student with a valid student ID. Tickets can be purchased by calling 1-800-NITTANY or at the door on game day.
