UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- The Penn State men's golf team will be a part of a 15-team field at the Kepler Intercollegiate hosted by Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio.
The 7,455-yard, par-71 Scarlet Course will host the field consisting of Akron (135), Ball State (132), Bowling Green (138), Eastern Michigan (102), Illinois (10), Indiana (124), Iowa (66), Kent State (12), Miami (OH) (185), Michigan State (40), Nebraska (145), Northern Illinois (169), Ohio State (61), Rutgers (182) and Penn State who comes into this weekend ranked 52nd according to GolfWeek.com.
Penn State head coach Greg Nye's lineup consists of sophomore Charles Huntzinger (Duluth, Ga.) and junior Cole Miller (New Tripoli, Pa.). For the first time all year, Nye has placed two freshmen in the lineup in Alec Bard (New Hartford, N.Y.) and Ryan Davis (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) with sophomore JD Hughes (Carlisle, Pa.) rounding out the five golfers.
The Lions look to improve upon their sixth place finish from a year ago at last year's Kepler Intercollegiate which was shortened to 36 holes due to inclement weather.
This year's event features 54-holes played on Saturday with a shotgun start at 8:30 am and ending on Sunday with tee times beginning at 7:00 am.
The Lions will be paired with golfers from fellow Big Ten schools Michigan State and Iowa for the first day of action.
