April 23, 2017

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. ââ'¬" The final round of the Big Ten Championship wrapped up today, as the Penn State women's golf team shot a 319, to finish in 11th place with a tournament score of 934.

The Nittany Lions three round scores were 306, 309, and 319 to finish just three strokes outside the top-10. Michigan State captured their seventh Big Ten title, as the Spartans shot a three-round total of 2-over par 866 (298-283-285) edging out Northwestern by two strokes.

Sophomore Lauren Waller (Canonsburg, Pa.) shot a 75 for the second straight round, to finish tied for 25th with a tournament score of 228. Waller tied sophomore Jackie Rogowicz (Yardley, Pa.) with a team-high three birdies. Rogowicz shot a 79 in her final round, and finished tied for 40th with a 231.

Senior Kate Granahan (Allentown, Pa.) ended the tournament with an 81 in her final round. Granahan had two birdies on the day, and finished with a tournament score of 244.

Newcomers Ashni Dhruva (Katy, Tx.) and Maddy Herr (New Hope, Pa.) both hit one birdie and shot round scores of 84 and 85, respectively. Herr ended with a tournament score of 240, while Dhruva had a 243.

After battling pain through her first two rounds, the training staff felt it was best for sophomore Cara Basso (Downingtown, Pa.) to rest and not compete in the final round due to a stiff/sore neck. Basso shot a 75 and 86 in her two rounds.

The Lions put together two successful seasons this year, earning a tournament title in both the fall at their home tournament the Nittany Lion Invitational, and in the spring as they won the River Landing Classic. Penn State continues to develop their young talented team, and bring in players who have a lasting impact on the program.
