April 28, 2017

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Tewaaraton Foundation named its 25 nominees for the Tewaaraton Award, lacrosse's top individual honor, Friday morning, with Penn State senior captain Nick Aponte named among the candidates.

A two-time Tewaaraton Watch List member, Aponte enters the final game of the 2017 regular season with 16 goals and 28 assists for 44 total points. Averaging 2.15 assist per game, he ranks 13th nationally and second in the Big Ten in the statistical category.

Aponte recently cracked the Penn State top-10 in career assists with 65 to date. He currently ranks ninth, needing just two more to tie for the eighth spot. Additionally, the senior holds one of the longest point streaks in the country. He has scored at least one point in 45 consecutive games, the eighth longest streak of its kind.

"This is a remarkable accomplishment for these student-athletes," said Jeffrey Harvey, Chairman of The Tewaaraton Foundation. "The Foundation and its board congratulates these talented players and their respective teams for being recognized by the Selection Committees as Tewaaraton Nominees."

Five men's and five women's finalists will be selected from these groups, announced on Thursday, May 11, and invited to the 17th annual Tewaaraton Award Ceremony on Thursday, June 1 in Washington, D.C.

Aponte and the Nittany Lions will conclude the regular season on Sunday, April 30, at 2 p.m. ET when the team takes on the Michigan Wolverines in Ann Arbor, Mich. The game, tape delayed on the Big Ten Network, will be streamed live on BTN2go.com with Mike Wolf and Jesse Schwartzman on the call.
