WVB Reveals 2017 Schedule

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State women's volleyball team announced its 2017 schedule on Monday afternoon, featuring 13 home contests spanning from August to November.

The Nittany Lions will once again compete among the best of the best, with the schedule including eight NCAA tournament teams from 2016 including reigning national champion Stanford and national semifinalists Nebraska and Minnesota. Additionally, seven opponents Penn State will face were among the AVCA's final top-25 poll, while eight finished the 2016 season with 20-plus wins.

For the first time in five seasons, Penn State will open its non-conference slate on the road, taking part in its opening tournament at West Virginia on August 25-26. The Nittany Lions will first face the Ohio Valley Conference's UT Martin (9-22) on Friday, before taking on Delaware (16-16) and West Virginia (12-18) the following day.

Penn State's second weekend of play pits the Nittany Lions against strong opposition in Stanford (27-7) and Texas A&M (21-9) on September 1 and 2. Penn State takes on the Cardinal for the first time on Friday, before facing the Aggies the following day.

PSU will compete in the Big Ten/ Pac-12 challenge for the second straight year, heading to Champaign, Illinois on September 8 and 9 to take on Colorado (14-16) before a rematch with Stanford, eight days after the two sides met last.

The Nittany Lions are set to close out non-conference play with the annual Penn State Classic from September 15-16, where the team will welcome Yale (19-5), Wake Forest (9-22) and Ohio (16-14) to Rec Hall. The Nittany Lions will face Yale Friday, before a doubleheader against Wake Forest and Ohio to close out non-conference action.

Penn State opens its conference slate on a four-game home stand, beginning with a tilt versus reigning Big Ten champions Nebraska (31-3) on September 22. The Nittany Lions will take on Iowa (19-13) the next day. The next weekend features game against Illinois (17-14) and Northwestern (10-22) on the 29th and 30th.

PSU will spend the first weekend of October on the road, trekking to Columbus, Ohio on October 6 to face the Ohio State Buckeyes (22-13) before heading to College Park, Maryland to face the Maryland Terrapins (12-20) the next day. Penn State will host Michigan State (25-9) and Michigan (24-11) on October 13th and 14th, respectively. The weekend of October 20-21 takes Penn State on a road swing to face Purdue (19-14) and Indiana (17-16).

From October 25 until November 18 Penn State's games shift from weekend doubleheaders to Wednesday and Saturday games. The Nittany Lions will face Wisconsin (28-5) to open the games on October 25. The team then goes to Illinois and Michigan State on October 28 and November 1, facing both the teams for a second time. PSU hosts Rutgers (4-29) on November 4, then takes a one-game road trip to Iowa on November 8. The Nittany Lions host their final two home games of the regular season on November 11 and 15, welcoming Maryland and Indiana (17-16) to Happy Valley.

The regular season ends with a three-game road trip where Penn State will face Rutgers once more on November 18, before finishing the regular season on November 24 and 25 with trips to Wisconsin and Minnesota (29-5).

Fans can place their deposits for season tickets, with a $25 deposit for current season ticket holders and $50 for new season ticket holders.

Penn State returns all of its starters from the 2016 campaign, including a trio of AVCA All-Americans in Ali Frantti, Simone Lee and Haleigh Washington. The Nittany Lions, one of two teams to make appearances in all 36 NCAA tournaments, hold a Division I record seven national titles and will look to improve on its 24-10 mark in 2016.
