UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. ââ'¬" Led by a trio participating in the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League, a total of 10 Penn State baseball student-athletes are scheduled to participate in collegiate summer leagues this summer.

The 10 Nittany Lions will be spread out amongst five leagues and eight teams.

Rising senior LHP Taylor Lehman (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and rising junior infielder/catcher Willie Burger (Lancaster, Pa.) are slated to return to the Cotuit Kettleers and Falmouth Commodores, respectively, in the Cape league, while rising junior RHP Justin Hagenman (Voorhees, N.J.) will debut in the league with the Wareham Gatemen.

The Cape League is recognized as the premier amateur summer league, with over a 1,000 major leaguers amongst its alumni. Last season, Burger hit four home runs in 33 games as he helped Falmouth to an appearance in the championship series, and Lehman went 3-1 in 10 appearances, including two starts, with a 3.19 ERA and 17 strikeouts in 31 innings pitched.

Penn State is also sending a trio to the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League, as rising junior catcher Ryan Sloniger (Punxsutawney, Pa.) will return to the Baltimore Redbirds for a second consecutive season and rising sophomores Logan Goodnight (Wheeling, W.Va.) and Mason Nadeau (Lansdale, Pa.) are debuting with the Alexandria Aces in Virginia.

Classmate Braxton Giavedoni (Punxsutawney, Pa.), Penn State's leading hitter this past season as a rookie, will play for the Galion Graders in Ohio in the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League.

A trio of rising juniors will head south for the summer, as outfielder Jordan Bowersox (Winter Springs, Fla.), who was Penn State's batting leader with a .333 average through the first 33 games until an injury ended his season, and infielder Conlin Hughes (Holly Springs, N.C.) will play for the Winter Park Diamond Dawgs in the Florida Collegiate Summer League. It will be Bowersox's second season with the team. Additionally, outfielder Austin Riggins (Greer, S.C.) is headed to the Coastal Plains League with the Gastonia Grizzlies.

Riggins' Grizzlies will be the first to start their season, doing so Thursday. Bowersox, Hughes and Giavedoni will open their seasons Friday.

The trios in the Cal Ripken and Cape Leagues will begin play Tuesday June 6, and Wednesday, June 14, respectively.
