UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - For the 21st consecutive year, Penn State men's basketball will host one of the highlights of the offseason in its annual Coaches vs. Cancer - Penn State Golf Tournament. Head coach Patrick Chambers will again host the tournament, which is sponsored by PSECU.
Festivities begin Thursday with the Sponsor/Captain Reception at the Penn State Golf Course's Hawbaker Pavilion and continue all day Friday with two flights of golf on Penn State's scenic Blue and White Courses. The evening will conclude with an awards dinner in Beaver Stadium's Mount Nittany Club.
Approximately 300 golfers and 60 groups are participating in the tournament, CVC-Penn State's hallmark event in the effort to raise funds in the battle against cancer.
The Penn State chapter of Coaches vs. Cancer was established in 1995 by former Nittany Lion head coach Bruce Parkhill. The first golf tournament hosted by CVC-Penn State took place in May, 1997 and was led by former Nittany Lion head coach Jerry Dunn. The tournament has since raised over $1.5 million, with the duo of Parkhill and Dunn returning to compete in it each year.
The annual Silent Auction has moved online for the second straight year, with participants able to place bids until June 3, 2017. Bids can be placed here. Featured items include 2018 U.S. Open Tickets, a Penn State Basketball "Coach for a Day" experience, signed memorabilia, jewelry and other custom experiences.
