May 8, 2017

ROSEMONT, Ill. - Penn State senior attacker Steph Lazo (Stevensville. Md.) has been named the Big Ten Attack Player of the Year as voted by the conference coaches and announced by the league office Monday afternoon.

Lazo becomes the first Nittany Lion attacker to earn a major conference award and the third player in the past three seasons to earn a B1G postseason honor joining Emi Smith '16 (2015 Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Year) and Madison Carter (2016 Big Ten Freshman of the Year). Head Coach Missy Doherty was also named Big Ten Coach of the Year following the 2015 campaign.

Lazo leads the Big Ten with her 82 points and 39 assists while her 43 goals rank seventh in the conference. Her point and assist totals also rank 16th and 20th, respectively, in the entire nation. She becomes just the eighth different Nittany Lion to register 80-plus points in a single-season while her 204 points place her eighth on the all-time Penn State scoring list.

The senior has been named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week on three occasions this season including following a career-high 12-point outburst in a season opening win against Albany. Those 12 points rank tied for third in the entire nation this season for the most in a single game.

Lazo's 4.56 points per game and 2.17 assists per game also rank first in the Big Ten and 19th in the nation.

Penn State returns to action as they host the winner of Friday's JMU vs. Louisville contest in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. from the Penn State Lacrosse Field.
