UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Incoming Penn State women's gymnastics freshmen Alissa Bonsall (Higganum, Conn.) and Lauren Bridgens (Darnestown, Md.) brought home top-10 event finishes in the Senior F section of the 2017 Junior Olympic National Championships this past weekend at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis.
"It was exciting to see Alissa and Lauren compete in person over the weekend at the Junior Olympic National Championships," head coach Sarah Brown said. "Alissa finished in the top-10 on bars and floor, while Lauren finished in the top-10 on floor to go along with her second-place finish on vault. It was a great meet for them and they both have a chance to make an immediate impact with our program as freshmen. I am looking forward to them joining our team this summer and beginning their time as Penn Staters."
At the 2017 Junior Olympic National Championships, Bonsall's meet was highlighted by tying for ninth on bars (9.600) and a 10th-place finish on floor (9.600), while Bridgens finished second on vault (9.875) and she tied for eighth on floor (9.625).
The Nittany Lions will return 12 members from the 2017 team, along with four incoming freshmen in 2018.
