The Future is Bright for T&F

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - While the Nittany Lion track & field team prepares for a trek to the west coast for the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore., the future of Penn State Track & Field recently completed their seasons at their respective state championships with results that have the Blue & White excited to welcome them to Happy Valley.

"I am very proud of our coaching staff for recruiting the level of athletes we have joining the program next fall," said head coach John Gondak. "Success breeds success and with the talented athletes coming to Penn State and putting on the blue and white for the next four to five years we look to continue challenging for Big Ten Championships and NCAA success."

Here are a few notable performances by the Penn State Track & Field class of 2021.

Ben Bumgarner

  • PIAA AA 3,200-meter state champion in a personal best time of 9:10.58.

Vail Freed

  • Won the DIAA Meet of Champions in the 3,200-meters in 9:23 and was a silver medalist in the 1600-meters

William Henderson

  • Won the Penn Relays long jump at 25'-2" (7.67m)
  • Maryland State Champion in Long Jump, 100-meters and 110-meter hurdles

Katie Jones

  • Broke the state record in Pole Vault with a clearance of 13'-7" (4.14m)
  • Pennsylvania State Champion

Audra Koopman

  • Colorado High School State Track and Field AAAAA Girls Long Jump Champion with a mark of 19'-0.50" (5.80m).

Terrance Laird

  • 2017 Pennsylvania Indoor State Champion 200-meters (21.31)
  • 2017 PIAA Class AAA Outdoor State­­­ Champion 200-meters (20.83) and 4X100-meter relay (41.53)

Brooke-Lynn Williams

  • 2017 MIAA Division 4 Indoor State Champion 55-meters
  • 2017 MIAA All Divisions Indoor State Champion 55-meters
  • 2017 New England Indoor Champion 55-meters
  • 2017 MIAA Outdoor State Champion 100-meters and 200-meters

Kier Miner

  • Runner-up 2017 PSAC Outdoor Championship 400-meters

Moira O'Shea

  • PIAA AA 1,600-meter runner-up

Victoria Tachinski

  • Posted times of 2:04.4 in the 800-meters and 53.40 in the 400-meters this outdoor season.

Jordan Williams

  • PIAA AA 1,600-meter champion with a personal best of 4:59.01

Nick Wagner

  • PIAA AA 800-meter silver medalist posting a personal best time of 1:51.79

Alison Willingmyre

  • Finished fifth in the PIAA AAA 3,200-meters in a personal best of 10:37.79
