Zakutney Selected to FISU Games Team

OTTAWA, Ontario - Reigning Big Ten Freshman of the Year Sam Zakutney (Ottawa, Ontario) has been named to the 2017 Summer Universiade (FISU) Games team as announced by Gymnastics Canada Tuesday, July 18.

Zakutney will compete in the FISU Games August 19-30 in Taipei City, Taipei representing Gymnastics Canada. The Ottawa, Ontario native is one-of-five gymnasts selected to represent Gymnastics Canada, while Joel Gagnon and Justin Karstadt of Minnesota will also represent the Big Ten Conference and Gymnastics Canada at this year's games.

The Summer Universiade is held every two years and incorporates educational and cultural aspects into 12 days of sports competitions, allowing university student-athletes from all over the world to celebrate with the host city in a true spirit of friendship and sportsmanship. The artistic gymnastics competition will take place from August 19 - 23, and rhythmic from August 27 - 29.
