FH Welcomes Bree Bednarski

July 24, 2017

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State Field Hockey has announced the addition of transfer Forward Bree Bednarski who will join the Nittany Lions after spending a season in the Maize and Blue of Michigan.

"We're excited to have Bree join the Field Hockey team," said head coach Charlene Morett-Curtiss.

"I think she really feels comfortable at Penn State with her sister being on campus and being closer to home I think it'll help her find a comfort level. She's obviously a very talented student-athlete in the Big Ten and we look forward to getting her on the field in a year."

"It's like a family," said Bednarski. "My family is close and it seems like a really great school with the atmosphere on campus, and I'm so excited to be coming here!"

Bednarski comes to University Park after a season that saw the Wyoming, Pa. native appear in all 20 games for Michigan earning a start on two occasions.

The then-true freshman scored her first career goal in 5-0 win at Cal on Sept. 4th and registered a career-high five shots on goal in 10-0 win over Central Michigan a few weeks later on Sept. 18th.

Prior to her year at Michigan, Bednarski was a member of the U.S. Under-17 National Team (2014-15), a two-time USA Junior National Camp selection, played with the WC Eagles (2015-16) contributing to WC Eagles' gold medal at the 2016 National Indoor Tournament and was an AAU Junior Olympic participant (2013).

As a prep, Bednarski recorded 127 career goals and 12 assists; led the WVC in scoring in her final two seasons (2014, '15), set the Pennsylvania single-season record with 67 goals as a senior (2015) and was named the 2015 Citizens Voice Wyoming Valley Conference Player of the Year.

Penn State opens the season Aug. 25 at 6 p.m. ET on the road against Old Dominion in Norfolk, Va.
