UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - With the first match of the 2017 Penn State women's soccer season closely approaching, the Nittany Lions have announced their promotional schedule for the regular season on Wednesday. The Nittany Lions will play eight regular season matches at Jeffrey Field this fall.
The past five seasons have been the best for the Penn State women's soccer team in program history in regards to average attendance. As in years past, fans can attend regular season contests at Jeffrey Field for free along with free parking. Fans are reminded that there is a no bag policy in place on stadium grounds.
The Penn State women's soccer team opens its 24th year as a varsity program on Aug. 18 against the BYU Cougars at 7 p.m. The match against BYU features a pre-game student tailgate for Penn State students, which includes raffle giveaways and free food with a valid PSU student ID. The BYU match will also kick off the Cub Club program for the Penn State Athletics year. Arrive early for the BYU match, because the first 500 fans will receive a Penn State women's soccer flag.
The Nittany Lions close out their opening weekend of action at 1 p.m. on Aug. 20 against Hofstra. The Hofstra match will be the first Social Sunday of the season and following the match fans can attend a free post-match autograph session.
Following a pair of matches on the road, the Nittany Lions return to Jeffrey Field to host the North Carolina Tar Heels for the first time in program history on Sept. 7 at 7 p.m. For the North Carolina match, fans are encouraged to dress like their favorite superhero for Superhuman Day. The match will also be Ability Athletes Night, LifeLink PSU Night, and Penn State SAAB's 800 Strong Game.
Penn State then kicks off its Big Ten slate against the Northwestern Wildcats on Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. Against the Wildcats, Penn State will be hosting Student Organization and Club Sports Night.
The Big Ten Conference opening weekend continues on Sept. 17 at 1 p.m. against the Fighting Illini of Illinois. On Sept. 17, the Nittany Lions will be hosting numerous promotions including: Princess and Pirates Day (All youth are encouraged to dress like their favorite princess or pirate and there will be a parade of princess and pirates pre-game), Cub Club Day, post-match autographs, and Alumni Association Day.
The Nittany Lions return to Jeffrey Field for a weekend slate against Michigan (Oct. 6 - 7 p.m.) and Michigan State (Oct. 8 - 1 p.m.).
The match against the Wolverines will be the Pink Zone game for the Nittany Lion women's soccer team. Breast cancer survivors can walk out with the team pre-game and will be recognized at halftime. The team will also be auctioning off their pink warmup t-shirts.
Against the Michigan State Spartans, fans are encouraged to arrive early for a Senior Day ceremony for the program's seven seniors. The match will also be another Social Sunday and THON Day.
The final regular season contest at Jeffrey Field in 2017 features Penn State taking on the Purdue Boilermakers on Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. Join the Nittany Lions as they host Honor Our Heroes Night. Military and first responders will be recognized at halftime of the Penn State-Purdue match.
