WLAX Announces the Addition of Alex Rich

Aug. 10, 2017

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Head Coach Missy Doherty and the Penn State women's lacrosse team has announced the addition of sophomore transfer Alex Rich (Lebanon, Pa.) earlier this week.

Rich joins the Nittany Lions after spending two seasons at the University of Louisville where she appeared in 12 games including 10 starts on defense in 2017 helping lead the Cardinals to an 11-8 record and an NCAA Tournament berth.

"We are so excited that Alex is coming to Happy Valley," commented Doherty. "Alex has a great, strong presence on the defensive end and we are lucky to have her a part of our program."

A four-year letter winner at Cedar Crest High School, Rich is the programs all-time leading scorer and was a two-time Lancaster-Lebanon League All-Star and was selected to the 2013 Central Pennsylvania National Team. Rich was also a Nike Elite 120 member and a qualifier for the 112-player tryout pool for the 2015 U.S. Women's National Under-19 squad.

Rich will add valuable NCAA experience to help fill the void left by the graduation of defenders Erika Spilker (Severna Park, Md.) and Natalie Schmitt (Malvern, Pa.) and will join 11 incoming freshman giving Penn State 12 new faces come the 2018 season.

Penn State is coming off back-to-back trips to the NCAA National Semifinals and their best finish in nearly 20 years as the Lions went 17-4 in 2017.
