UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -The Big Ten Conference announced its 2017 field hockey preseason honors on Monday, highlighted by seven All-Big Ten selections from last season, including Penn State's Aurelia Meijer, Skyler Fretz and Gini Bramley.
Four first-team All-Big Ten students from the 2016 campaign headline this year's preseason choices including Penn State's Meijer who picks up her second-career preseason honor.
Meijer, a junior forward, enters her third-season as a Nittany Lion coming off a career year that saw her team capture the Big Ten Tournament Championship. A native of Hattem, Netherlands, Meijer recorded 11 goals, 12 assists for 34 points as well as four game-winning goals. Meijer was one of two First-Team All-Big Ten selections and one of two All-Americans for the Blue & White last season.
Fretz, a senior team captain, started all 20 games for Penn State last season finishing with over 1,300 minutes and five defensive saves throughout the 2016 campaign. Fretz was a 2016 All-Big Ten second-team selection as well as earning NFHCA All-Region Honors.
Bramley, a junior midfielder, started all 20 games last season recording 12 goals and four assists as well as being named the Big Ten Tournament MVP and earning NFHCA All-Region Honors.
Penn State opens the season on the road Friday, August 25 at 6 p.m. taking on Old Dominion in Norfolk, Va.
