Aug. 25, 2017

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Head Coach Guy Gadowsky and the Penn State men's ice hockey team announced the hiring of Kyle MacDonald as volunteer assistant coach for the 2017-18 season earlier this week.

MacDonald is a 2016 graduate of St. Lawrence University where he was a goaltender on the Skating Saints hockey team under the guidance of head coach Greg Carvel.

"I want to thank Coach Gadowsky and the entire Penn State hockey staff for this tremendous opportunity," mentioned MacDonald. "I am honored to be joining a program of such high caliber and look forward to contributing to future successes."

MacDonald spent last season as an assistant coach at Division II Southern New Hampshire University where he served as the recruiting coordinator, planned practices and oversaw the day-to-day operations of NCAA Division II eligibility. He is also a member of USA Hockey and has presented in front of hundreds of coaches from various age groups about goaltending and practice planning.

"Kyle played for a great program in St. Lawrence and is a very highly respected coach and goalie coach," commented Gadowsky. "He will be a great addition for both our goaltenders and our entire program."

A native of Hanover, Mass. MacDonald was a Boston Herald Goalie of the Year and a three-time Catholic Conference All-Star while leading Xaverian Brothers High School to three straight Super 8 appearances. He was also a member of the Bay State Breakers of the EJHL.
