UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; August 30, 2017 ââ'¬" Two current members of the Penn State fencing team competed in the World University Games this past weekend in Taipei. Sophomore Barbara Vanbenthuysen (Spring, Texas) and junior Karol Metryka (Linden, N.J.) each participated while former Nittany Lions Kaito Streets and Howie Chan did as well.
VanBenthuysen helped lead the women's epee team to the silver medal as a team at the event while Metryka placed ninth in the men's saber. Streets, a former NCAA Champion for Penn State, competed for Japan while Chan competed for Hong Kong.
