MONTREAL - Penn State sophomore Kaelan Freund (Lethbridge, Alberta) won his second gold of the 2017 Canadian Swimming Championships, touching first in the 100-meter breaststroke Monday in Olympic Park Sport Centre.
Freund finished in 1:02.01 to win by a full second. Saturday, Freund earned his first national championship medal in 27.94 seconds in the 50m breaststroke.
Also competing was classmate Liam Veregin (Ottawa, Ontario), who placed seventh in the 50m backstroke in 27.02 seconds. Saturday, he placed 10th in the 100m backstroke with a best time of 58.02 seconds.
Both were also finalists Friday. Freund was seventh in the 200 breaststroke in 2:18.71, while Veregin was 16th in the 200 back in 2:07.55.
