WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The Penn State women's golf team is at the top of the leaderboard after competing in the first two rounds of the William and Mary Invitational today.
The team shot a 590 (+14), leaving them in first place as they head into round three tomorrow. Following close behind the Nittany Lions is Seton Hall with a two-round score of 592 (+16).
After the first round, Penn State and Seton Hall were tied for first, each with a score of 296 (+8). Penn State managed to pull ahead by 2 strokes during the second round of play. UNCW follows closely in third, 6 strokes behind Penn State and 4 behind Seton Hall.
Junior Cara Basso (Downingtown, Pa.), in the lead for the Nittany Lions, started strong going one-under in the back nine of the first round. Basso finished the day even stronger, hitting a total of six birdies in the second round. She completed each round with a 73 (+1), leaving her tied for second.
Juniors Jackie Rogowicz (Yardley, Pa.) and Kamerine Taylor (Dublin, Oh.) finished behind Basso, each with a two-round score of 148 (+2) and tied for sixth. Rogowicz hit an eagle on the third hole of the first round, while Taylor hit four birdies in the second round and completed the back nine one-under.
Junior Lauren Waller (Canonsburg, Pa.) had three birdies for the day finishing with a two-round score of 150 (+6). Sophomore Maddy Herr (New Hope, Pa.) added two birdies in the first round leaving her with a two-round score of 152 (+8).
The ladies resume play tomorrow at 9 a.m. to finish the third round of the tournament.
