UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The No. 2 Penn State volleyball team made quick work of the Wake Forest Demon Deacons on Saturday morning, sweeping the visitors, 3-0; 25-16, 25-11, 25-11.
Haleigh Washington (Colorado Springs, Colo.) continued her strong play, opening the first set with four kills on four attempts, adding four blocks. In the second set, it was her strong serve that was on display, as the middle blocker dished out two aces. She finished the match with eight kills on nine attempts without an error, for a .889 hitting percentage. She also added a match-high seven blocks.
Simone Lee (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) picked up her play in the second set, putting down five kills with no errors in the second set alone. Her final numbers included a game-best 10 kills on a clip of .818. She added a career-best five service aces and she tallied two blocks.
The Nittany Lions also got solid play from Bryanna Weiskircher (Rockford, Ill.) as she took a majority of the setter role, as she dished out a game-best 24 assists, adding three blocks, three digs, and two kills.
Penn State finished the match with 38 kills, with a team hitting percentage of .500. They also added 11.0 team blocks. Seventeen different players saw action for the Nittany Lions, and freshman Cami May (Katy, Texas) and Michaela Putnicki (Monument, Colo.) both recorded their first kills inside of Rec Hall.
The Penn State women's volleyball team will take on Ohio at 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon in their final match of the Penn State Classic.
