FINAL STATISTICS

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Penn State women's volleyball team bounced back on Saturday afternoon as they took down the visiting Iowa Hawkeyes, 3-1; 25-13, 25-19, 23-25, 25-17, in their second Big Ten match of the season, moving the Nittany Lions to 11-1, 1-1 in conference play.

Senior Simone Lee (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) was a key cog in the Nittany Lions recuperation from their loss to Nebraska on Friday evening. Lee put down 22 kills, eclipsing the 20-plus mark for the third time this season, and she did so on a clip of .409. She also marked her third double-double of the season as she added 10 digs in the affair.

The setting duo of Abby Detering (Mentor, Ohio) and Bryanna Weiskircher (Rockford, Ill.) were clicking on Saturday afternoon as they dished out 28 and 25 assists, respectively. Both also tallied double-doubles as Detering added 10 digs, while Weiskircher added 10. They teamed up to lead the Nittany Lions to a .366 hitting percentage as a team.

Both Haleigh Washington (Colorado Springs, Co.) and Ali Frantti (Spring Grove, Ill.) both added double-digit kill performances as Washington put down 12 kills and Frantti added 10.

However, it was Heidi Thelen (Edgewood, Ky.) and Tori Gorrell (Oakville, Ontario) who provided a spark for the Nittany Lion offense. Thelen played just three sets, but it was her timeliness that proved key. She put down six kills without an error for a clip of .545. Gorrell was also timely in her success as she added five kills and three key blocks throughout the match.

As a team, the Nittany Lions out-blocked (11.0-6.0), and out-dug (60-53) the visiting Hawkeyes and helped slow down the Iowa offense.

Penn State returns to action on Friday, Sept. 29 with a 7:30 p.m. ET match against Illinois in Rec Hall.
