WGOLF Leads First Two Rounds at Nittany Lion Invitational

University Park, Pa.- The Penn State women's golf team sits in first place following two rounds of play at the Nittany Lion Invitational at the Penn State Blue Course.

The Nittany Lions used an all-around team effort in the second round shooting a 574 (2-under) to grab a one stroke lead heading into the final round on Sunday. Maryland is trailing close behind in second, one stroke behind Penn State.

Five of the ladies finished the day in the top twenty. Leading for the team, and tied for first, is sophomore Maddy Herr (New Hope, Pa.) with a two-round score of 142 (2-under). Herr had four birdies in the first two rounds.

Following behind Herr are juniors Jackie Rogowicz (Yardley, Pa) and Cara Basso (Downingtown, Pa.), both tied for fourth. Basso secured two eagles in the first round on holes nine and 18 and finished with a two-round score of 143 (1-under). Rogowicz also completed the day with a two-round score of 143 (1-under), birdying a total of seven times.

Junior Lauren Waller (Canonsburg, Pa.) shot a 146 (plus-2) and had six birdies, leaving her tied for 12th. While, sophomore Ashni Dhruva (Katy, Tx.), the top individual player for Penn State, is currently tied for 19th, making par (72) in the second round.

The third round of play resumes tomorrow at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start.
