UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- For the first time since 2011 Michigan shutout Penn State as the Nittany Lions dropped their second game of the year in a 3-0 decision at Field Hockey Complex Sunday afternoon.

"I think Michigan came out wanted it more," said head coach Charlene Morett-Curtiss.

"We talked about their physicality in a positive way, they showed determination, when they kept out cutting us for passes I knew we were in trouble. One of our goals was to win the 50/50 balls and we didn't do that."

The Wolverines outshot the Nittany Lions 13-12 while Penn State held the advantage in penalty corners earning eight to Michigans three. Both teams recorded an identical nine saves on the day.

Michigan scored twice in the opening half, finding the cage in the 19th and 27th minute before adding the nail in the coffin in the 55th minute that sealed the game for the Wolverines.

Penn State falls to 2-1 in conference play with a chance to add to the win total coming up next against the Spartans of Michigan State in East Lansing, Mich.

Penn State will hit the field Friday, Sept. 29 at 6 p.m. in East Lansing, Mich. for the first of five straight road contest.
