Pavlik Releases 2018 MVB Schedule

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.
- Following a season that saw Penn State men's volleyball return to the NCAA tournament, the Nittany Lions are already putting in work for the 2018 season. Head coach Mark Pavlik released the 2018 schedule Tuesday afternoon.

Several Penn State Men's Volleyball alums will return to town to take part in the alumni match Jan. 6th in Rec Hall.

Penn State officially kicks off the 2018 season hosting Mount Olive and Alderson-Broaddus Jan. 12-13 in Rec Hall.

The following week, Penn State heads to the west coast to compete in the Big Ten/Pac-12 Challenge at Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles, Calif., the site of the 2018 NCAA Men's Volleyball Championships. At the Big Ten/Pac-12 Challenge the Nittany Lions will take on UCLA (Jan. 19) and USC (Jan. 20).

Following the Big Ten/Pac-12 Challenge, Penn State once again hits the road for a challenging weekend, traveling to play the defending NCAA Champion Ohio State Buckeyes on Jan. 28.

Opening the season with two road trips over the first three weeks, Penn State will play at home six out of the next seven occasions facing Ball State (Feb. 2), IPFW (Feb. 3), Harvard (Feb. 16), Sacred Heart (Feb. 17), George Mason (Feb. 23), Charleston (Feb. 24) at Rec Hall with the lone road game over that span being at Saint Francis (Pa.) on Feb. 10 in Loretto, Pa.

A short weekend in New Jersey, featuring matches against NJIT (Mar. 2) and Princeton (Mar. 3) gives way to a trip to Hawai'i for the Outrigger Invitational that includes three matches (BYU, Hawai'i, Lewis).

Ohio State and Saint Francis (Pa.) come to town Mar. 16 & 18 before the Nittany Lions knockout their final four road matches of the regular season with trips to Sacred Heart (Mar. 30), Harvard (Mar. 31), Charleston (Apr. 6), George Mason (Apr. 7).

The final homestand for the Lions will be Apr. 13-14 with matches against Princeton and NJIT.

The annual EIVA Championship will take place April 19-April 21 at the site of the school receiving the No. 1 overall seed in the tournament.

For the fourth consecutive year, the NCAA Play-In match will determine the final field for the NCAA tournament, with this year including an automatic bid from the newest conference in men's volleyball - The Big West Conference. This year's Play-In match is tentatively set for Friday, April 27 at a site to be determined. The 2017 NCAA national championships are May 1-5 and will be hosted by UCLA in Los Angeles, Calif.

The Nittany Lions closed out the 2017 season with a 21-11 overall mark, including an 11-3 record in EIVA action capturing the tournament title in Rec Hall.
