UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -Penn State junior Colin Abert was named Big Ten cross country Athlete of the Week Wednesday following his performances Friday at the National Open at the Penn State Blue-White course.

- Placed third at Penn State National Open in University Park, Pa., helping the host Nittany Lions to a runner-up team finish
- Recorded a time of 25:19 for the 5.2-mile race, good for a one-mile pace of 4:52
- The Nittany Lions' 2016 Big Ten Sportsmanship Award recipient earns his third career Big Ten Athlete of the Week honor and third this year

Following Abert's performance, the men's team earned their first ranking of the season from USTFCCCA checking in at No. 30 in the nation and No. 5 in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
Penn State returns to the course Sunday, Oct. 29 as they travel to the Big Ten Championships hosted by Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind.
