UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State women's volleyball senior middle blocker Haleigh Washington was named the Big Ten Player of the Week for the second time this season as she helped the Nittany Lions register back-to-back sweeps in Big Ten action.
Washington led Penn State in kills with 11 against Illinois, a team that boasted the top blocking middle heading into the weekend. Washington was effective in her attack with a clip of .647. She also added four blocks against the Fighting Illini and dished out two aces.
In the match against Northwestern, Washington put down 10 kills on a .474 - hitting percentage, while adding three digs, and five blocks.
She averaged 3.5 kills per set out of the middle and added 1.5 blocks per set on the weekend. Her .556 hitting percentage on the weekend jumped her back into the No. 1 spot in the nation as she leads all players with a .504 hitting percentage on the year.
This marks the seventh time Washington has earned Big Ten Player of the Week honors, and it is the fourth time this season that Penn State has had a student-athlete earn the award.
Penn State hits the road for their first road Big Ten matches as they take on Ohio State on Friday evening at 7 p.m., and they head to Maryland for a 7 p.m. match on Saturday.
