Rehoboth Beach, Del.- The Penn State women's golf team is traveling to Rehoboth Beach, Del. to make their first ever appearance in the Blue Hen Invitational, Saturday-Sunday, Oct. 21-22. The invitational is hosted by the University of Delaware at the Rehoboth Beach Country Club golf course.
The two-day tournament fields nine teams and will play a 36-18 format beginning Saturday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. The course plays 6,180 yards and is a par-72. This is the third and final new site for the Nittany Lions this season.
"We like to think of our competitor as the golf course," said Head Coach Denise St. Pierre, "It is the one thing that changes the most. Our strategy and game plan for this weekend is to attack the golf course with strength."
Competing this weekend are juniors Lauren Waller (Canonsburg, Pa.), Jackie Rogowicz (Yardley, Pa.), Cara Basso (Downingtown, Pa.), and Kamerine Taylor (Dublin, Oh.), and sophomores Maddy Herr (New Hope, Pa.) and Megan McLean (Lebanon, N.J.).
Two weeks ago, Waller shot a four-under 68, the lowest round of the season, in the second round of the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational (Oct. 6-7) leaving her tied for fourth out of 96 players. Rogowicz leads the team with a 73.33 stroke average this season.
This will be sopomore Megan McLean's first on-the-road tournament for the Nittany Lions.
The field consists of host Delaware, Albany, Bucknell, Harvard, James Madison, Navy, Penn and Towson.
Penn State placed ahead of James Madison in the William & Mary Invitational (Sep. 10-11), as well as Delaware, Bucknell, Harvard and Penn in the Nittany Lion Invitational (Sep. 23-24). New competitors for the team this season are Navy and Towson.
