McSorley Named Camp Player of the Week

Oct. 22, 2017

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Junior quarterback Trace McSorley (Ashburn, Va.) earned the Walter Camp National Offensive Player of the Week award after his performance against No. 19 Michigan. He is the ninth Penn State player to claim Walter Camp National Player of the Week honors, but the first offensive selection.

The last Penn State player to earn Walter Camp weekly honors was Brandon Bell last season vs. Michigan State.

McSorley was 17-of-26 for 282 passing yards and a touchdown against the Wolverines. He also hurt Michigan with his legs, recording 76 rushing yards and a career-high three touchdowns. McSorley has thrown a touchdown pass in 22 consecutive games, dating to the 2016 TaxSlayer Bowl, extending his Penn State record. The streak is the second-longest active streak in the FBS (Oklahoma's Baker Mayfield). He also had his 12th career game with both a rushing and passing touchdown. McSorley is the first Penn State quarterback to run for three touchdowns in a game since at least 1982.

With 358 yards of total offense, McSorley became the fifth Nittany Lion with 6,000 career yards of total offense. He moved into fourth place on the career charts with 6,340 yards (5,678 passing and 662 rushing), passing Tony Sacca (6,000 yards). McSorley's 282 passing yards against Michigan give him 1,879 yards this season, which ranks 22nd for a single season. With 358 yards of total offense versus Michigan, McSorley moved into 19th place in the single-season total offense chart with 2,133 yards (1,879 passing and 254 rushing). McSorley was responsible for four touchdowns against the Wolverines (three rushing, one passing) giving him 21 this season, which is tied for 12th place at Penn State with Kerry Collins in 1994 and John Hufnagel in 1972.

The second-ranked Nittany Lions travel to No. 6 Ohio State Saturday at 3:30 p.m. on FOX. The game can also be heard on GoPSUsports.com and the Penn State Sports Network.
