Beckford Named B1G Offensive POTW

Oct. 24, 2017

ROSEMONT, Ill. - Penn State men's soccer freshman Ethan Beckford (Manchester, England) was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week for the period ending Oct. 22. The award marks the first of the season for the Nittany Lions and the first of Beckford's career.

Beckford is the first Big Ten honoree for the Blue and White since Connor Maloney earned the award on Oct. 25, 2016.

The Manchester, England native led the Nittany Lions tallied five of Penn State's 17 points in its 6-2 victory over Rutgers this past weekend. The freshman forward started off the match with an assist on Ryan Gallagher's goal before adding a goal of his own in the second half.

After a Penn State player was fouled in the box, Beckford drove in a penalty kick and followed it up with his second goal of the match 20 seconds later for the Blue and White. In total, Beckford took five shots with two goals and one assist for the Nittany Lions.

Beckford and the rest of the Penn State squad will play its final non-conference regular season match Wednesday, Oct. 25 against James Madison in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
