MADISON, Wis. - The No. 11 Penn State women's soccer team fell 1-0 to the Wisconsin Badgers in its final match of the 2017 regular season Wednesday night at the McClimon Soccer Complex.
Penn State concludes the regular season with an overall record of 10-4-3 and a record of 6-2-3 in Big Ten action, while Wisconsin is now 12-4-2 on the year and finishes Big Ten play at 6-3-2.
During the first half of regulation, Wisconsin outshot the Nittany Lions, 6-4, and Penn State goalkeeper Rose Chandler (Atlanta, Ga.) recorded two saves, while the Nittany Lion defense stepped up for a save in the fourth minute.
The Badgers netted the lone goal of the night during the 52nd minute of action, as Cameron Murtha tallied her fifth goal of the season off a header from inside the box.
Wisconsin goalkeeper Caitlyn Clem recorded her ninth shutout of the season, as she tallied a pair of saves on the evening.
The Nittany Lions will be back in action in the Big Ten Quarterfinal round as the fifth seed on Sunday, Oct. 29.
No. 11 Penn State now heads to Piscataway, N.J., to take on the No. 25, and fourth-seeded, Rutgers Scarlet Knights. The match is slated for a 1 p.m. start at Yurcak Field.
