Wilmington, N.C.- The Penn State women's golf team is back on the road in Wilmington, N.C. to compete in the 16th annual Landfall Tradition, Friday-Sunday, Oct. 27-29.
The tournament, hosted by UNCW, will take place at the Country Club of Landfall on the Pete Dye Course. The course is a par-72 and plays 6,166 yards. This is the 10th appearance for Penn State.
The 54-hole event will play an 18-18-18 format with round one teeing off Friday, Oct. 27 from holes one and 10 beginning at 8:30 a.m. Round two on Saturday, Oct. 28 will follow the same format while Sunday's championship round will tee off at 8:45 a.m. with a shotgun start.
Competing for the Nittany Lions is junior and recent Big Ten Golfer of the week, Jackie Rogowicz (Yardley, Pa.). The lineup also includes juniors Cara Basso (Downingtown, Pa.) and Lauren Waller (Canonsburg, Pa), as well as sophomores Maddy Herr (New Hope, Pa.) and Megan McLean (Lebanon, N.J.).
Rogowicz is returning to the course following her second top-three finish this season, taking individual second at the Blue Hen Invitational last weekend. She led the same tournament in birdies while Basso led in eagles.
Veterans Waller and Herr also return this weekend for the Nittany Lions. Both ladies have competed in all four tournaments this season. McLean is making her second on-the-road collegiate debut, the first being last weekend.
The 18-team field includes top ranked Alabama (No. 3), Florida (No. 5), Duke (No. 7) and Furman (No. 9). Penn State is also joined by Big Ten Rivals Michigan, Michigan State, and Purdue.
The remaining teams are, Clemson, Kentucky, LSU, NC State, Notre Dame, Oklahoma State, South Carolina, UCF, host UNCW and Virginia. South Carolina took home the tournament title last year.
"This is the strongest field we have faced all fall," said Head Coach Denise St. Pierre, "With 18 top ranked teams, we are looking forward to competing with some of the best and set our bar for the spring as we close out the fall season."
The Nittany Lions will play their first round Friday, Oct. 27 with UCF and NC State beginning at 8:30 a.m.
