WGolf Finishes Fall Season at Landfall Tradition

Wilmington, N.C.- The Penn State women's golf team finished out their fall season at the Landfall Tradition in Wilmington, N.C. The third round of play, slated for today, was canceled due to inclement weather and unplayable course conditions.

Penn State shot a 298 (plus-10) in the first round and 306 (plus-18) in the second leaving them with a two-round and overall tournament score of 605 (plus-28). The team finished in 16th place, 12 strokes ahead of top-ranked Notre Dame.

No. 4 Duke beat out No. 2 Alabama by just one stroke for the tournament title. Duke completed the two rounds 14-under 562. Duke's Ana Belac and Virginia's Beth Lillie tied for individual first place with two-round scores of 9-under 135.

The Nittany Lions' junior Jackie Rogowicz (Yardley, Pa.) finished in individual 28th place in the 96-player field. Rogowicz shot even to par (72) in round one and three-over in round two for a two-round score of 147 (plus-3).

Junior Lauren Waller (Canonsburg, Pa.) shot a 76 (plus-4) in round one and a 75 (plus-3) in round two securing a tied for 55th finish with a two-round score of 151 (plus-7). Waller had four birdies in the second round.

Sophomore Maddy Herr (New Hope, Pa.) shot a consistent 76 (plus-4) in both rounds, finishing tied for 65th with a two-round score of 152 (plus-8).

Junior Cara Basso (Downingtown, Pa.) tallied five birdies in two rounds, having three consecutive birdies on holes 11 through 13 in the first round. She shot 154 (plus-10) in two rounds.

Sophomore Megan McLean (Lebanon, N.J.) had two birdies in the tournament, the first on hole three in round one and the second on hole 10 in round two. McLean finished the weekend with a two-round score of 168 (plus-24).

"We will take away some great lessons as we look ahead to the second half of our season next spring," said Head Coach Denise St. Pierre, "I believe this will be a great motivator for the team to step up their preparation for the remainder of the season."

Penn State will return to the course Feb. 4-6 in Orlando, Fla. for the start of their spring campaign at the UCF Invitational.
