BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Penn State wrapped up competition at the Big Ten Championships hosted by Indiana University at the IU Championships Course Sunday afternoon with fourth and tied for seventh-place finishes by the women and men's teams, respectively.
The rolling, wooded IU Championship Course is noted as optimal for competitors and spectators alike. The IU course has hosted to six Big Ten Championships (1969, 1978, 1987, 1996, 2006, 2017).
The No. 9 Penn State women's team posted a fourth-place finish placing four runners in the top-25.
For the women's team, Penn State again was paced by Jillian Hunsberger who earned First-Team All-Big Ten honors with her seventh-place finish in 20:28.7.
Hunsberger, a senior from Pittsburgh, Pa., was followed closely by teammates Alison Willingmyre (20:48.8), Kathryn Munks (20:50.3), Greta Lindsley (21:00.8), and Danae Rivers (21:24.9) in 18th, 20th, 25th, and 37th-place, respectively.
Also competing at the Big Ten meet for Penn State were Lisa Bennatan (22:00.7), Victoria Crawford (22:44.8), and Noemie Noulett (23:01.5) in 62nd, 89th, and 97th, respectively.
The No. 30 Penn State men's team was led by Colin Abert posting a time of 24:27.7 finishing in 12-place earning Second-Team All-Big Ten honors.
Rounding out the scoring for Penn State were Timothy McGowan (24:42.3), Andrew Sell (25:05.7), Bobby Hill (25:11.4), and John McGowan (25:11.4) in 21st, 39th, 44th, and 45th-place, respectively.
Also competing for the men's team were Billy McDevitt (26:26.9), Ben Bumgarner (26:40.1), and Brady Bobbitt (27:06.7) in 93rd, 97th, and 99th, respectively. The men's team improved two places from last year's ninth-place showing in Minneapolis, MN.
The Nittany Lions travel to Bethlehem, Pa. on Nov. 10th for the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional hosted by Lehigh University set to begin at 12 p.m. ET.
