Miller Added to Bednarik Watch List

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State sophomore defensive end Shareef Miller (Philadelphia) has been added to the Chuck Bednarik Award watch list for the nation's College Defensive Player of the Year.

The Bednarik Award has been presented to the College Defensive Player of the Year since 1995. Chuck Bednarik, former standout at Penn and with the Philadelphia Eagles, is a member of both the College Football Hall of Fame's Class of '69 and the NFL Hall of Fame's Class of '67. The Nittany Lions' four Bednarik Award recipients are the most of any school in the nation.

Miller has 16 tackles on the season, which is seventh on the squad. He leads the team in tackles for loss (6.0), sacks (2.0) and quarterback hurries (3). Miller also has a safety at Iowa. In the win over Pitt, Miller had three tackles, including two sacks. He followed that performance up with a trio of stops against Georgia State. At Iowa, Miller continued his strong play with a career-high-tying five tackles with 2.0 tackles for loss and a safety. Last week, Miller had four tackles and a QB hurry.
