Lexington, Ky. - The Penn State women's golf team ended the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational in third place. The ladies finished with a three-round score of 880 (plus-16) trailing Big Ten rival Wisconsin by four strokes.
Notre Dame led the tournament by two strokes, taking home the first-place slot. Kentucky's Grace Rose and Notre Dame's Emma Albrecht tied for individual first place. They both shot five-under 211.
Lauren Waller (Canonsburg, Pa.) and Maddy Herr (New Hope, Pa.) finished in the top 20. Waller shot a 216 in three rounds leaving her tied for fourth. She had a low-round score of four-under 68 in the second round. Herr tied for 13th with a three-round score of 221 (plus-5) recording five birdies between rounds two and three.
Just shy of the top 20, tied for 22nd, were juniors Cara Basso (Downingtown, Pa.) and Jackie Rogowicz (Yardley, Pa.). Basso had seven birdies in three rounds and ended the third round two-over 74. Rogowicz shot one-over 73 on the final round.
Junior Kamerine Taylor (Dublin, Oh.) also tallied seven birdies in the tournament and shot one-over 73 in the second round. Senior Ariana Coyle Diez (Dublin, Ireland) finished out the tournament with a three-round score of 230 (plus-14).
Penn State pulled ahead of fellow Big Ten rivals Indiana and Illinois by 26 and nine strokes respectively. Host Kentucky followed behind the Nittany Lions in fourth place.
"We are getting close to breaking through with all five players making improvements in each tournament. We beat some great teams along with a couple of Big Ten teams," said Head Coach Denise St. Pierre, "We have been in the lead pairing in every tournament this fall. We are knocking on the door and hanging around the top of every field we have played thus far."
The ladies will have two weeks off before returning to the course in Newark, Delaware for the Blue Hen Invitational, Oct. 20-21.
